Almost everyone's perception of Mallorca is of a sunny beach in the summertime. However, the Island is equally fantastic as a winter getaway!

Even though January and February are the coldest months on the island, the winters are generally quite mild overall. On bright days, the temperature can reach 15 to 20 degrees, with a minimum of 6 degrees. On average, it rains 6-8 days every month, which is more frequently than summer. Palma de Mallorca, the city, and the less touristic areas still have plenty to offer, even though many hotels, restaurants, and cafés in the more traditional tourist areas like Magaluf, Alcudia, and the Playa de Palma are closed. Go to Palma de Mallorca

Palma, the capital of Mallorca, is at its most beautiful in the winter, in my opinion. The city core is considerably less hectic and noisy than it is in the summer, when the streets are bustling with people. You can bask in the winter sun while sipping a coffee or beer on sunny street corners. Palma de Mallorca's famed cathedral is even more picturesque in the winter, when fewer tourists flock there. I suggest having a hearty breakfast at one of our favourite cafes in case it starts to rain.

Shopping

During the winter, when fewer tourists are out and about, a leisurely shopping tour of Mallorca is the way to go. Most stores in Palma are open nonstop from Monday through Saturday.

The Mallorca Fashion Outlet is another great place to go. About a ten-minute drive from Palma, you'll find the Outlet, where you can find a wide selection of brands at discounted costs. Visiting the outlet is a fantastic idea, especially on rainy days, because in addition to all the shops, there are also restaurants, cafes and a large theatre that shows certain films in English. You can shop at the Mallorca Fashion Outlet any time between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm, any day of the week.

Going for a coastal or mountain walk

Mallorca is a hiking paradise in the winter! When it's cold outside, long hikes aren't an option, but in the summer, the heat makes them uncomfortable. There are some stunning hiking routes across the island, particularly in the Tramuntana highlands to the northeast, where you may visit some of the most picturesque towns. Another option is to take a drive towards the island's eastern side and then stroll along the shore, such between Cala Varques and Cala Romantica.

In 8 degrees, to the beach? Oh, absolutely! Mallorca is filled with numerous coves and beaches perfect for a leisurely stroll or a little climbing. Having the option to be at a beach all winter long is a fantastic perk—trust me, you won't get that during peak season! Some lovely "winter beaches" here are:  Port Alcudia, Sa Rapita, Cala Varques, Cala des Moro, and Cala Llombards

Discover the charming villages of Mallorca

You must visit the mountain villages in the Tramuntana region of Mallorca during the winter. During the summer, there is generally a lot happening here, but during the winter, the little villages experience a more authentic and relaxing environment due to the decrease in tourists.

Journey to the Ufane Fonts

Assuming you're lucky, you can witness a one-of-a-kind natural phenomenon in the centre of Mallorca, close to the village of Campanet, following heavy rainfall in the Tramuntana mountains. The woodland becomes a magical place where water trickles down from hidden spots, creating an atmosphere straight out of a fairy tale.

A Day for Spa and Wellness

Nothing like a hot soak in a Jacuzzi on a chilly, wet day! You can attend the saunas and SPAs at many of Mallorca's hotels during the day even if you aren't staying at the hotel.
